For my intro to project I really wanted to focus on experimenting with techniques that I hadn’t used before and work with new mediums. I gathered inspiration from different areas of London, including Hackney city farm and various museums. Usually within my textiles I tend to stick to more neutral tones and colours but with my drawings this time I chose to use a wide range and colour, trying to portray the energy of what I was drawing onto the paper.
I also pushed myself to use new methods of drawing such as timing myself and sticking the sheets of paper onto the wall, this allowed me to explore how to use my tools in a different manner, exploring alternative ways to use oil Pastels, pencils and pens.
For my ‘Talking colour’ samples I decided to focus on how I was going to capture the bright colours and energy that jumped out at me that the subject carried. Using a range of mediums such as coloured pens, oil pastels, watercolour, pencils and ink allowed meet explore this energy. My favourite outcome for ‘talking colour’ being the purple oil pastel flowers. Going out of my comfort zone to create this by giving myself a 3 minute time limit and taping my paper to the wall so that it allowed me to use my full body when using the oil pastel, twisting it as I drew.
During ‘talking pattern’ my favourite outcomes include the watercolour painting of a goat I saw at Hackney city farm and a pen drawing of a tree I saw on my walk to uni. Adding this much detail into my tree drawing allowed me to deeply explore the patterns that it carried.
On reflection I would use more mediums, to play around with texture of my work more, for example using a needle to punch holes in the paper to portray the texture of a tree.
