Patterns

Reflection
In my “Talking Colour” task, I explored various aspects of London by visiting museums, art galleries, and local parks while capturing interesting patterns around the stations. This experience allowed me to delve into different media, including acrylics, watercolours, coloured pencils, markers, graphite, and oil pastels. This was particularly challenging for me since I typically focus on pencil and FineLine pen work, and I often struggle with selecting colours. Through this task, I discovered that I excel at detailed drawings rather than abstract or quick sketches. I realised that I often overthink my approach, concentrating too much on the final outcome instead of enjoying the creative process itself. This insight has been invaluable, helping me to recognise the importance of being present in the moment while creating art.
For my observational drawings, I chose colours that were naturally present in the scenes I captured, reflecting my observation accurately. I carefully selected each technique based on how well it complemented the subject matter I was drawing, which resulted in a cohesive body of work. Looking ahead to my upcoming task, “Talking Patterns”, I aim to deepen my understanding of colour selection and technique to achieve the best results. I plan to incorporate my emotions and feelings while observing the scenes, rather than relying solely on what I see. This approach will not only make my work more interesting but also enhance its creativity, allowing me to connect more deeply with the art I create. By embracing both technique and emotion, I hope to produce more expressive and impactful pieces in the future.

I truly love your use of vibrant colours and unusual extravagant patterns in your drawings I can see your vast imagination being used in your drawings. I especially like the range of medias you used from acrylic paints to felt tip pens, colouring pencils and fine liners that give extra definition to your drawings.
Your first colour drawing stood out to me massively. I found it very impactful because there is so much detail and so many different things to observe. I can see you were inspired by artists such as Yayoi Kusuma and Angelo Accadi and put your own creative twist to them. You responded to them with your own ideas which I really admired.
I think the simplicity of your pattern drawings are very effective because the colours are so vibrant. I also really like how there’s a similar theme of almost a leopard print or polka dots throughout, as it makes it more of a collection of pieces instead of lots of completely different ones. I love how you created two of the leopard print drawings, one in purple and one in orange, because I think it displays the effect colour has because although there so similar there also very different.
However, I would have loved to see some more pattern drawings. This time adding some more detail because your colour drawings had such enticing detail in them. Maybe you could use fine liner to develop the drawings or even use some textiles and stitch into the actual drawing.
