Talking Colour/Pattern – Daniel Reynolds
Colour

I grew up in London which gave me an advantage as I knew exactly where to go when it came to the theme of colour and find my inspiration for it, Notting hill, where there’s a road of colourful houses, vintage clothing with vibrant patterns and the market full of multi-coloured exotic fruits and vegetables
I did the drawing of tube station logo twice because the first one I did I used some posca pens and one of them exploded whilst I was drawing that made this dripping effect and I thought to myself great I’ve ruined it I need to start a new one but then I salvaged it by adding more drips this made it more abstracts and reminded me of graffiti which you usually see on the tube all the time but I repeated in crayon again in a much more picture perfect way
When it came to my drawings I feel like I should have experimented a lot more instead of stuck to what I already knew. I should have used some different medias like paints, collaging, oil pastels instead of not taking risks and using what I know well like colouring pencils and crayons. So next time I want to explore that further. I also could have used different techniques to make my drawings more abstract than just what I see from the pictures. I could have done some mark making or drawn on coloured paper. For my next task I definitely want to let go a bit more and not worry about it looking perfect all the time

Hii,
I genuinely admire your observational drawings! The vibrant colours you use—such as acrylics, coloured pencils, pencils, and oil pastels—really bring everyday subjects like tube stations, shoes, buildings, and fruits to life. I’m always impressed by how quickly you capture these scenes, showcasing your solid drawing skills while maintaining that fresh, spontaneous feel that is so characteristic of observational work.
Your pattern drawings, in particular, stand out to me. The colourful overlapping circles create a striking visual effect that draws the viewer in and invites closer inspection. The way you layer these patterns adds depth and interest, making them truly captivating.
Most of your drawings have a realistic style and beautiful line work. However, I think you have the opportunity to try out a wider variety of media. Even though your present methods work well and offer amazing results, experimenting with mixed media may produce more interesting results. You might find fresh ways to convey the vitality of daily life by combining various materials.
I also recommend you to experiment with different textures and shapes in your designs. At the moment, they primarily use lines and circles, but adding more to your repertory could give your work even more energy. All in all, I’m interested to watch how your artistic style evolves. Continue to push yourself, and I’m forward to see what you come up with next!
